"Do they care?"

Whispers the little calf
As she stands chained to a crate
Her fate unknown
"Do they care that
We're hungry
We're lonely-
We're children!"
Says the bigger one next to her,
"No, they don't care
If we're hungry
Or lonely
We're not children to them
Only beasts to be used.
Used for the cruel, horrible thing they call
Veal.
He shudders.
The door creaks as it is slammed open
A single beam of sunlight
Shines as
A beam of hope to the calves
But a few of them are taken,
And the little calf
Sighs
As she is dragged away
And closes
Her
Eyes.
